To better serve our community, we proudly opened our second clinic location in South Riding, VA in 2016. This new location quickly became the go-to place for all of our southern and central Loudoun County patients for their orthopaedic and physical therapy needs. Featuring several of our renowned orthopaedic and podiatric providers, as well as some amazing physical therapists, we are proud to have served the community for the past 8 years - and are proud to continue offering these amazing services!
Dr. David Goodwin specializes in the non-operative and surgical treatment of both youth and adult patients with shoulder, knee, hip, and sports injuries.
After attending George Washington University for his undergraduate and medical education, Dr. Goodwin completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at Georgetown University. He then completed a sports medicine fellowship at NYU Hospital for Joint Diseases in New York City. During his training, Dr. Goodwin specialized in the treatment of athletic injuries, arthroscopy, and shoulder surgery, with a focus in hip arthroscopy and cartilage restoration techniques.
Dr. Goodwin is committed to providing state-of-the-art care to his patients with advanced arthroscopy and joint preservation techniques. His expertise includes minimally invasive, arthroscopic, and reconstructive procedures of the knee, hip, and shoulder. He also brings extensive experience in the treatment of pediatric injuries and injury prevention in children and utilizes numerous noninvasive procedures for injuries such as platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections.
In addition to his work at Arthritis & Sports Orthopaedics & Physical Therapy, Dr. Goodwin continues to be involved in medical education and training. He currently serves as an Adjunct Professor of Medicine at George Washington University School of Medicine, where he mentors medical students. Dedicated to caring for athletes in the area, Dr. Goodwin is currently a team physician for multiple team sports, and is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS) and the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM).
A lifelong athlete, Dr. Goodwin continues to be active in distance running, tennis, and snowboarding. He is an avid Washington Commanders fan, and is dedicated to providing quality care to his patients.
Dr. Candice Holden has over twenty years of experience specializing in the non-operative and surgical treatment of pediatric patients with orthopaedic disorders and injuries.
After graduating from medical school at University of Southern California's School of Medicine, she completed her orthopaedic residency training at LAC & USC Medical Center. After residency training, Dr. Holden completed her pediatric orthopaedic surgery fellowship at the Alfred I DuPont Hospital for Children.
Throughout her training, Dr. Holden has learned to utilize a multi-disciplinary approach spanning a range of clinical practice to help her diagnose, treat, and care for her young patients. She treats a variety of conditions, from broken bones and sports injuries to complex cases.
In addition to her work at Arthritis & Sports Orthopaedics & Physical Therapy, Dr. Holden is affiliated with Shriners Hospital for Children and holds privileges at Baystate Medical Center.
Dr. Holden is board-certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. She is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) and the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America (POSNA).
Dr. J. Austin Underwood specializes in sports medicine, nerve testing, and rehabilitation medicine.
After graduating from medical school at Georgetown University School of Medicine, he completed his residency training at Virginia Commonwealth University’s Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R). The medical field of PM&R specializes in maximizing performance of patients in both elite and everyday activities. After residency training, he completed his sports medicine fellowship at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas. He has served as a team physician for high schools and universities including the NCAA Division 1 TCU Horned Frogs and Longwood University Lancers.
Specific conditions which Dr. Underwood treats include (but are not limited to) acute and chronic musculoskeletal injuries, joint pain, tendonitis, sacroiliac disorders, back pain, sciatica, spine arthritis, disc disease, and nerve injuries. To treat these, he utilizes a range of specialized procedures including epidural steroid injections, nerve blocks, joint injections, trigger point injections, and regenerative medicine techniques such as platelet rich plasma (PRP) injections. These procedures are performed in-house, utilizing x-ray and ultrasound guidance for pin-point accuracy.
Here at Arthritis & Sports, Dr. Underwood’s interventional procedures offer additional non-surgical options to patients. His diagnostic testing will help patients to determine the severity of injuries and identify conditions which may be contributing to their pain.
About Dr. Sriya Babu
Dr. Sriya Babu is a fellowship-trained physician dedicated to providing state-of-the-art care to patients with injuries and disorders of the foot and ankle.
A native of the DMV, Dr. Babu is deeply connected to her community and is proud to have returned. She attended the University of Pittsburgh for her undergraduate education where she studied biology and dance. This unique blend of disciplines not only honed her scientific acumen but also instilled in her a deep appreciation for the artistry of human movement. She received her D.P.M. from Barry University School of Podiatric Medicine. She completed her podiatric residency with an added credential in reconstructive rearfoot/ankle at Long Island Jewish Forest Hills Hospital where she served as the chief resident in her final year. Subsequently, she received fellowship training in advanced foot and ankle reconstructive surgery and trauma at WVU Medicine Wheeling Hospital.
Dr. Babu is dedicated to providing state-of-the-art care for patients with foot and ankle injuries and athletic, traumatic, and degenerative disorders. Her expertise includes all areas of care for foot and ankle problems, including: advanced foot and ankle trauma; reconstructive and revisional surgery; rearfoot and ankle fusion; sports injuries; arthritic disorders; ligament and tendon repair; minimally invasive surgery; total ankle replacement; and charcot neuroarthropathy.
In addition to her work at Arthritis & Sports, Dr. Babu is an associate member of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons, an active member of the American Podiatric Medical Association, and a member of the American Academy of Podiatric Sports Medicine.
Beyond her professional pursuits, Dr. Babu finds balance and inspiration in her personal life. She enjoys international travel, exploring diverse cultures and cuisines. Dr. Babu also has a creative side, nurturing her love for art, and cherishes the moments spent with her family and friends.
