Local doctors Dr. Randall Peyton, Dr. Matthew Griffith, Dr. Sabina Malhotra, and Dr. David Goodwin honored as four of the top doctors in the Northern Virginia area within their specialties!
Arthritis & Sports proudly recognizes and congratulates four of our physicians who received "Top Doctors" honors in Northern Virginia Magazine’s Top Doctors of 2023 issue - Dr. Randall Peyton, Dr. Matthew Griffith, and Dr. David Goodwin for their expertise in Orthopaedic Surgery; and Dr. Sabina Malhotra for her exemplary skills in Podiatric Surgery.

Dr. Randall S. Peyton has been practicing orthopaedics in the Northern Virginia area since 1995. Dedicated to delivering quality care, Dr. Peyton is President and CEO of Arthritis & Sports, which he founded in January 1998. Dr. Peyton is an orthopaedic total joint surgeon, focused on the treatment of arthritis, sports injuries, and musculoskeletal problems of the hip, knee, and shoulder.
A native of Roanoke, Virginia, Dr. Peyton’s medical career began at the Medical College of Virginia where he received his Doctor of Medicine degree. He then served his residency at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he later acted as Chief Resident in Orthopaedic Surgery. He completed his fellowship training in adult reconstruction and total joint replacement surgery at the prestigious Rothman Institute of the Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. Dr. Peyton has performed thousands of knee and hip replacements.
In addition to his work at Arthritis & Sports Orthopaedics & Physical Therapy, Dr. Peyton is a fellow in the American Academy of Orthopaedics Surgeons (AAOS) and belongs to several professional organizations including the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS) and the Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA). As the most common cause of disability in the U.S., Dr. Peyton passionately believes in fighting arthritis and finding a cure. For six years, Arthritis & Sports Orthopaedics & Physical Therapy has proudly sponsored The Loudoun County Arthritis Walk. Dr. Peyton has been a Medical Ambassador for over six years and was named Medical Honorary Chair in 2009.
Dr. Matthew H. Griffith is dedicated to providing state-of-the-art care to patients with sports injuries and athletic, traumatic, and degenerative disorders. His expertise includes minimally invasive and arthroscopic procedures of the shoulder, elbow, and knee as well as reconstructive surgery including total shoulder and reverse shoulder replacements. He is one of the few in the world to remove bakers cysts through the arthroscope, and also performs regenerative therapies like PRP injections.
Dr. Griffith attended Duke University for his undergraduate education and received his M.D. from the University of Oklahoma. He completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at the prestigious Hospital for Special Surgery (Cornell University) in New York City. Subsequently, he received fellowship training in sports medicine and shoulder surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital (Harvard University) where he served as an assistant team physician for the New England Patriots, Boston Red Sox, and Boston Bruins.
In addition to his work at Arthritis & Sports, Dr. Griffith is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine. Dr. Griffith is dedicated to caring for athletes in the area and is currently the team physician for the Potomac Falls Panthers and Park View Patriots high school football teams.
Dr. Sabina Malhotra specializes in providing personalized, comprehensive care for all conditions of the foot & ankle. Dr. Malhotra’s areas of expertise include the treatment of athletic and sports-related injuries, reconstructive surgery, and injury prevention. Her professional motto is simple: "Patients first."
A native of Northern Virginia, Dr. Malhotra attended Flint Hill School where she played varsity tennis. She then received her Bachelor of Science at The College of William & Mary before obtaining her medical degree from Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine in Philadelphia, PA. Following medical school, Dr. Malhotra completed three years of surgical residency at MedStar Washington Hospital Center and Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C. Throughout her training, Dr. Malhotra was blessed to work under the mentorship of several world-renowned physicians in the fields of podiatric, orthopaedic, vascular and plastic surgery.
Dr. Malhotra is Board Certified by the American Board of Podiatric Medicine. She is also an Associate Member of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons, an Associate Member of the American Academy of Podiatric Sports Medicine, and is Board Qualified by the American Board of Foot & Ankle Surgery. An active member of the American Podiatric Medical Association, Dr. Malhotra has authored for many professional journals, including the Clinics in Podiatric Medicine & Surgery.
Frequently recognized by her patients and peers as a “Top Doctor”, Dr. Malhotra has appeared in several Top Doctors publications and serves as the consulting doctor for a number of local running clubs. Dr. Malhotra believes in the natural healing properties of the body and encourages her patients to remain active throughout the recovery process. She places a high emphasis on fitness of both body and mind, and believes in leading a healthy lifestyle.
In her free time, Dr. Malhotra enjoys traveling, tennis, hiking, biking, motorsports, and photography. She is fluent in English, Spanish, Hindi, Urdu, and Punjabi.
Dr. David Goodwin specializes in the non-operative and surgical treatment of both youth and adult patients with shoulder, knee, hip, and sports injuries. After attending George Washington University for his undergraduate and medical education, Dr. Goodwin completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at Georgetown University. He then completed a sports medicine fellowship at NYU Hospital for Joint Diseases in New York City. During his training, Dr. Goodwin specialized in the treatment of athletic injuries, arthroscopy, and shoulder surgery, with a focus in hip arthroscopy and cartilage restoration techniques. Dr. Goodwin is committed to providing state-of-the-art care to his patients with advanced arthroscopy and joint preservation techniques. His expertise includes minimally invasive, arthroscopic, and reconstructive procedures of the knee, hip, and shoulder. He also brings extensive experience in the treatment of pediatric injuries and injury prevention in children and utilizes numerous noninvasive procedures for injuries such as platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections. In addition to his work at Arthritis & Sports Orthopaedics & Physical Therapy, Dr. Goodwin continues to be involved in medical education and training. He currently serves as an Adjunct Professor of Medicine at George Washington University School of Medicine, where he mentors medical students. Dedicated to caring for athletes in the area, Dr. Goodwin is currently a team physician for multiple team sports, and is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS) and the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM). A lifelong athlete, Dr. Goodwin continues to be active in distance running, tennis, and snowboarding. He is an avid Washington Commanders fan, and is dedicated to providing quality care to his patients.
